The pressures of college are real.

Like a schizophrenic drill-sergeant, the demands seem to come from everywhere. Whether it’s selecting a major, enduring a rigorous course load, or living with a hygienically challenged roommate; thriving in college is a daunting task for anyone.

Although often touted by pop culture and bored Baby Boomers as the supposed best time of one’s life, the university years can be filled with numerous challenges.

And this can especially be true for people of faith.

Perhaps one of the most significant pressures students face is conformity, that obligatory expectation to fall in line with the prevailing ethos of our day. Fundamental aspects of Christianity are continually called into question, and maintaining one’s faith on campus can be a painful and dizzying experience.

As a student, how can you begin navigating these difficult waters?

PrayerBreakfast

In a recent address given at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, Princeton University Professor George implores his audience to become faithful witnesses in an ever-increasing, insidious climate of conformity.

“The days of acceptable Christianity are over. The days of comfortable Catholicism are past. It’s no longer easy to be a faithful Christian, a good Catholic, a faithful witness to the truths of the Gospel.”
